So great - makes me want to go and look at all my albums anew! I also have a real soft spot for the era of the 'premium' CD, as you mentioned. Designers got really creative I think, using all the real estate of the product (secret images behind the CD, colourful cases, curved corners etc).
Yes! Secret messages under the CD tray was a big one - and secret messages scratched onto the centre of the vinyl! Wasn't there also a secret little design in the spine of a Sheryl Crow album that you could only see when you opened it up?
